Out of Our Fathers' House
Based on Eve Merriam's
Growing Up Female In America: Ten Lives
Presented by the Parish Players

Directed by Toni Egger

Produced by Linda Neubelt

Out of Our Fathers' House is taken entirely from the diaries, journals, and letters of the 18th, 19th and 20th century women portrayed.

Told through monologues created from the actual writings of the characters listed above, this play is designed as a hypothetical conversation between these women who lived at various times over a period of almost two hundred years. In spite of the differences in their eras, these women are united through the common challenges of their efforts to grow "out of their father's house."

The play was adapted by Daniel Schrier and arranged for the stage in 1975 by Paula Wagner, Jack Hofsis, and Eve Merriam with Music by Ruth Crawford Seeger.

Cast: The cast of characters includes six women who describe the challenges of growing up female in America. Their stories resonate today.
